Our Family

Our Family Series of books started with a visit to my Grandmother Anna Lambert in 1986.  As we visited, a book was produced that commemorated the 100th anniversary of Turton, a little town in South Dakota.  In this book were stories about her parents and other settlers telling where each family had came from and a little of their history.  Grandma Anna filled in more details of her family who had moved from Quebec to Illinois in the 1850’s and I wrote down names and dates of my great and great-great grandparents. I kept this little list on a scrap of paper for twenty years, looking at it occasionally, and wondering where I might find out more about these mysterious ancestors who seemed lost to me in the mist of time.

Computers, Internet and Ancestry.com came into being and one day something prompted me to dig out that little list and see if I could find anything at all about my ancestors and their lives and times.  I can see those of you who have used Ancestery.com, or programs like it, grinning because you have a very good idea of just how much information I was quickly overwhelmed with.

My Father’s parents had both emigrated from Sweden.  Grandma Anna was French and her husband, Grandpa John, was German. It all seemed so simple and when I was asked what my nationality was, I could recite, “I’m one-half Swedish, one-quarter French and one-quarter German.”

You’re grinning again!

As you probably have, I found English ancestors in with the French and German ancestors slipping across the Belgium border to marry French Girls.  I found out the Swedes had migrated across Europe and had their roots in the Trojans.  The Trojans in turn, were of the family of Japheth, the son of Noah, whose clan moved north and west toward Europe after the confounding of languages at the Tower of Babel.

All along the whole migration and spreading out to fill the world, there have been wars, raping and pillaging, capture of slaves and intermarriage between clans and tribes.  The concept that we are all related has become very real to me.  This is why I have chosen to call the historical fiction books I have written and the ones I hope to write, “Our Family Series”.  The ones I write about are not just my ancestors, they are yours too!

All of us today have one thing very important thing in common, LIFE!  Not life that spontaneously arose from nowhere, but life that has passed in an unbroken chain all the way back to Adam and Eve.  There has never been a time in history that we have not had living ancestors.  Our ancestors created the history we read about, whether they were the victors who celebrated or the ones who were vanquished and died. All of our ancestors more that just a few generations back are dead, for that is the natural cycle of life.  But, none of them died before passing on the spark of life that is now living in each of us.

We are FAMILY and in the historical fiction books I have written and plan to write, see ‘Books written and planned’, you will find some of your ancestors as I find mine.  Much has been written about Adam and Eve, and I can’t compete with Mark Twain, so I will use Jared and Beraka in Volume One , as the starting point for the “Our Family Series”.

The bible lists eight straight line descendents between Adam and Noah. Noah is a common ancestor to every person alive today, so logic tells us that each of these ten, (Adam and Noah included), is also a common Ancestor. Listing them in order we have, Adam, Seth, Enos, Cainan, Mahaleel, Jared, Enoch, Methuselah, Lamech and Noah.

Hello. I am Joan Kaler’s sister. We have always wondered about our geneology and especially about the French Canadian part. I found out recently that we are of MiqMaq decent and French. My grandparents and great grandparents all had French last names. Joan mentioned that you had new books and were planning more. I wish you success and hope to be able to read some of them. My grandmother was from Nova Scotia, but I believe the native Americans were from PEI. and that there is documentation of them dating back over 6,000 years. Just wanted to let you know who I am and will continue to check your website. Linda Charity Musial

      Dear Linda,

How nice of you to write. Joan gave me a few of your ancestor’s names two years ago and I wasn’t able to find any information then.

Have you had any luck? It would be fun to tie the families together.

      Denis
